Remember your first smellaricious whiff of a fresh clean baby dusted in that wonderfully fragrant white baby powder? That is a wonderful fragrance to remember. That fresh baby MMMmm smell.   However, most people never once consider what really goes into making those delightfully scented baby powders, oils and creams that are sprinkled, rubbed and smoothed all over baby. The honest truth…most people trust the big Baby personal care giants and blindly purchase items that may be slowly killing baby.

After all, there is enough to worry about when it comes to baby and what we put on them or in them shouldn’t be one of them.  However, recent consumer news headlines have mothers, dads and grand parents in a tizzy.

Warning:  Most Baby Personal Care Products Are Loaded With Poisons.

According to the Campaign For Safe Cosmetics formaldehyde has repeatedly been shown to be a strong allergen that can cause contact dermatitis is found in many baby products including Johnson’s Baby Shampoo, Mr. Bubble Bath and Huggies Baby Wash –  considered by the North American Contact Dermatitis Group to be among the most clinically significant contact allergens in children.

Have you ever read the label on a bottle of baby shampoo or baby talcum powder?   Most have not. And if reading the label is enough, who on earth could understand the words.  And the biggest tip is that many Personal Care manufactures are not required by the FDA to list ingredients. What is a concerned baby lover to do?

Since most baby personal care products contain harmful chemicals, if there is a label here are some key words you should look for:

• phthalates
• parabens
• sodium lauryl sulfate

The above ingredients can cause allergic reactions,  or they can be absorbed into baby’s skin and have horrible affects on baby’s endocrine
system.

These products also may contain harmful chemical by-products such as

• 1,4-dioxane
• formaldehyde

These are classified as possible carcinogens by the EPA.

Take a moment or two to completely research all of your baby’s personal care products. After all protecting baby is an important job. Remember, baby’s skin is five times thinner than yours, making it easier for chemicals to be absorbed. And, because babies have a greater ratio of skin surface to body weight, babies have a more difficult time passing chemicals out of their systems.

Consequently, the personal care products that you purchase are absolutely critical for your babies health and development.  So now may be a good time to toss those fragrant baby smelly products from the past for all natural scents of essential oils and ingredients like oatmeal and corn starch.
